1. Why Glider Pilot
2. Lava Kiss
3. I'm not alright
4. Broken
5. Levitz (Safe asleep)
6. Pissant (Throw me away)
7. Poisoned at Hartsy food
8. Laughing stock
9. Why took your advice
10. (formerly the) rattlesnake song
11. 12 Pak $ 5.99
12. Lawn & so on

After listening to this gem for months now, I have to say it's a wonderful addition to the GD discography, and deserves to be fully recognized as an album.

I loved to listen to this record in the form it was meant to be released, not in parts as it was previously... The rattlesnake song is finally complete, and what a wonderful song ! I also really like the fact that fantastic 'b-sides' I heart get back to their original place in this album, like this old levitz, 12 pak and Lava kiss.
The elder Laughing stock is great as well, maybe closer to the live version of the song, and as good as the freeway one. And what can I say about "I'm not alright" and "Why glider pilot"... ?

Any other thoughts about this album ? Please tell us what you think of it...

Re: Thoughts on "Don't sock the tryer" - best X-mas present ever

i wasn't too sure either, thinking the same that this was going to be a little bit ordinary, but too my surprise it is a very good album, perhaps, in my opinion, nearly tops 'the sophtware slump', which will still remain one of my all time fave albums.
gotta love why glider pilot, (formely) the rattlesnake song, laughing stock and i'm not alright.
great album, i do hope it can be released some day in a better format, as this should derserve better (as should all grandaddy songs/albums).
and does anyone know the lyrics to 'why glider pilot'? any help on that would be good thanks :D

i may as well put my $0.02 in...

don't sock the tryer should have been released in place of "under the western freeway" as grandaddy's first major label album... there were plenty of excellent b-sides to supply "under the western freeway" with a remaining track listing and still make just as strong (if not a better album)...

i could compare the two for about an hour and nitpick about shit, but the truth is western freeway (with the addition of some of the better tracks off of "tryer") turned out very well... with "a.m. 180" as a single it should've gained more recognition and attention to a brilliant band... i think given the right label support, they could have been as big as radiohead or the flaming lips are now.

more to the point, i absolutely love "dont sock the tryer" and sincerely consider that to be grandaddy's first album (despite the existance of "complex party come along theories", which still has quite a few redeeming tracks)... i think it should be remastered and rereleased... as a grandaddy fan it holds a special place in my heart and i find it to be probably one of their best albums.
in the meadow we can build a snowman and pretend that he is Alan Parsons...

Yeah, in russian we always write some letters vertically ;)

So, I guess this album was made by the three first GD members, and that it was dropped to improve the sound with the addition of Fairchild & Dryden. Right ?

Without a doubt this is a real Grandaddy full length album.
I've been obsessed with it since it was recorded.
We live in a time when stuff like this finally gets released.
It deserves an official viny release.
