My Favourite UMO is II

Hi Eean!

I'm enjoying recent releases by Kurt Vile, Mac Demarco, and Wilco.
Still listening to tons of Ariel Pink and 70s Beach Boys.
Looking forward to the new Tortoise album and Cass McCombs singles compilation.

Its been a good year so far so without further ado....

1. Beach House - Thank your lucky stars
2. Beach House - Depression Cherry
3. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell
4. John Grant - Grey Tickles, Black Pressure
5. Tame Impala - Currents
6. Lower Dens - Escape from evil

The two Beach House albums came out 2 months or so apart and they are fucking stellar! I really want the vinyls!

Robbie - you forgot your password again? :D

I've still never managed to get into Wilko. Maybe i'll give it another crack. I played Max some Aerial Pink this morning - he didn't seem bothered. He liked Band Of Horses best!

I'll check them out! (Currents is already a favourite!)

I thought yesterday that possibly Mew and The Glass Handed Kites had slipped into my Favourite Album of all time slot, so I revisited the Spiderland remaster - and it's still there. Untouchable!!

Just been listening to the new Low album. Not bad, not bad at all!

Yeah Beach House have really stripped back their sound.

I saw Lower Dens supporting Belle and Sebastian earlier this year and that was a very good show.

I love this track a lot

I'm considering making this the week that I finally listen to The White Album by the Beatles.
It's there ready. Maybe....
I need to check out those Beach Boys albums - Their back catalogue is pretty overwhelming and it's hard to know where to start.

I attempted an experiment on Friday night. When I was a teenager I'd sometimes put on Stanford Prison Experiment's self titled debut album when I was going to sleep. It's by no means a relaxing record, but back in the day when I had a LOT fewer records - it was as good as any. And I'd usually be asleep before it ended.

So I thought I'd listen to it for probably the first time in at least 15 years while I was falling asleep to see if I went back in time or something or whether I'd have a hyper-real dream about that time, but what actually happened was that I found it hard to fall asleep to and woke up in a horrendous mood!

So I recommend that.

Today, I've listened to Iron Maiden.

Beach House - I just can't get into. I liked Zebra, but as they've minimized... it's disconnected for me... though I love that they've stayed popular doing something so atypical... a win for unique musicians.

Love the new Low. Totally agree.

The White Album is spotty - worth listening to straight through - it's a strange ride end-to-end - but it won't likely become your favorite Beatles record.

I used to fall asleep to Nine Inch Nails... I have trouble doing that now, though still sleep with music on every night. Can't sleep in silence (not easily).

Been listening to lots of Elvis Costello (as I listen to the audiobook of his autobio), and Sleater-Kinney (as I just finished Carrie's book - and loved it)... good stretch for musician's books.

Less new stuff of late than old - but really like the new El Ten Eleven, Public Service Broadcasting, Legends and Lightning In A Twilight Hour.

I'm listening to my recording of fart noises I recorded in music memos. I really like what my iPad is doing with the bass track.
